Framed laminate vent covers are available in two designs, standard and no-recess. 

In the no-recess option, the cover is not supported by the frame. Instead, the cover rests on the subfloor inside the frame. This adds strength to the otherwise weak laminate vent cover without losing in appearance. No-recess option can also simplify installation of laminate vent covers in floating floors.
